Onye Nkuzi Writes| M.I. Okpara - an unsung Nigerian hero.

African political and social commentator Okwu
Nwachinaemelu, also known as Onye Nkuzi (@cchukudebelu) talked at
length about Michael Okpara.

I have collected some of his tweets on Michael Okpara.

" H/t to @UtomiPat . Awo
rolled out free education in
the Western Region. Zik &
M.I. Okpara wanted to do the
same, but there were
problems."

"2. Oil Palm was not as
lucrative as Cocoa, so by
1957, the Eastern Region was
spending 40% of its budget
on education. Still not
enough."

'' 3. Jerome Udoji (Permanent
Secretary of Education) told
Zik & M.I. free education
couldn't be funded, primary 1
- 5 should pay fees."

"5. The philosophy was
simple - the burden of
education would be shared;
cooperation between
missionaries, communities
and government."

" 6. "Ibu Anyi Danda" was
successful. The Eastern
Region was able to bridge the
educational gap with the
West. Historical records are
there."

" 7. M.I.Okpara was not
perfect (he's the man on my
avi), but I think Ndigbo and
Nigeria don't give the man
enough credit. He was good."

" 8. "Ibu Anyi Danda"
illustrates the difference
between Civilian and Military
regimes. Civilians are a
liberty to "think outside the
box"."

" 9. Military regimes were
either down right corrupt or
tried to turn Nigeria into one
massive barracks. In both
cases, lack of ideas."

"10. Was the policy of
"essential commodities" in
1983 or SAP in 1986 the best
response to Nigeria's woes?
No. Was there a debate? No."

" My prayer is that Igbo leaders
like @realalexotti will study
M.I Okpara. Remember this
"ibu anyi danda".

" Most young Igbos know
absolutely nothing about M.I.
Okpara. We do ourselves a
great disservice by not
teaching history."

" The point is this - Awo
tackled education differently
from Zik & M.I. Okpara. In
Military regimes it was
regimented "one size fits all".

Buhari A Sufficient Case Study.| Adurosakin Olajide Writes

I wish I studied in the Faculty of
Education.

My Thesis Title could have been:

'Education Enhances Eloquence: Mr
Muhammadu Buhari As A Sufficient
Case Study.'

Without being in the Biological
Sciences, I could have got a living
specimen, and My evidences could have
been short speeches of less than 5
minutes each, streamed on a video
device.

I could have been graded A, as none of my Supervisors will ever watch
the clips to
the end before adjudging Me a Genius through My indubitable proof that
portrays a Man whose speech will make a deaf mute bless the Creator
for making him dumb rather than stutter like a Khoikhoi Tribesman.

I still dey come...

Being a Foreigner in Nigeria; A perpetual State Of Confusion.| Diane Asenoguan, An Australian Writes For BN BLOG

Being a Foreigner in Nigeria.A perpetual State Of Confusion.| Diane
Asenoguan, An Australian Writes For BN BLOG.

In this my 4th long period of visiting
Nigeria(I hold a Naija wife card) I can
say that the general situation and
attitudes of those Nigerians I have
come into contact with this time has
deteriorated immensely.

Doing
business here is fraught with twists
and turns designed to hamper and
prevent progress.
This time I came to partner in a new
business relating to Vocational
Education for Nigerians and to foster
the use of standards, and because I
was begged by many and encouraged
by the Nigerian High Commission
staff in my country I put 12 months
into designing courses, and other
workplace training information.

The first visit to Corporate Affairs with
appropriate forms in the Ikeja Office
in Lagos. (God help me I thought it's
all a manual system) What should
take but a few days has turned into
an epic tortuous event required the
intervention of a Lawyer after the
business name was rejected as "Not
being African enough" So 4 months
later, with another name issued that
they like I am still waiting for the
business registration certificate from
Abuja and cannot work. I have been
led down a million different pathways
by staff at the Lagos office of
Corporate Affairs, by the lawyer (who
made an erroneous signature on one
of the forms) by the staff at Corporate
Affairs Office Ikeja branch who had
me reporting to them half a dozen
times before they rejected the
application out of hand but there was
always the opportunity to slip some
money to staff working behind the
counters though. (See white invent
new rules and extract money)
Customs and Immigration don't
provide any service at all unless large
sums of money are produced, and
they create confusion as only
Nigerians can. Government rules
change at the whim of the person you
are dealing with. If this is an example
of government public service then the
people of Nigeria have no chance to
progress into a modern world.

I no longer feel safe on my own estate
and local district where I used to be
able to walk alone and do my local
business. Not so now, for Keke, Okada and other motorists have taken
extreme pleasure in diverting from
their path to drive straight for me.

Why? what has happened since my
last visit to Nigeria. Dealing with
government and business houses was
not as difficult as it is today. The
supply of power has reduced
significantly where I now go days
without it or as in this cycle we get 3
or 4 hours at night to pump water (if
we are lucky) The apathy to such
service reduction is amazing, no one
cares, no one bothers to report
exploded lines, neighbors don't
communicate. A society of apathy,
lamenting, bribing and no
accountability is what I find today.
It's no wonder the figures on poverty
have jumped by more than 30% over
the past few years.

I am exceedingly emotional about
these recent experiences and my
frustration prevents me from writing
with a greater level of
professionalism. So I give up You
have won and you are driving me
back to my own country.

Will Buhar Jail Tinubu?.Author Benneth Nwankwo Writes.

For those who know him to the letter, they said; he is a tough man. A
fearful soldier. Incorruptible personality and revered statesman.

In fact many had arguably declared him synonymous to; artlessness,
directness, downrightness, genuineness, ingenuous, open-faced,
sincerity, square, straightness, truth, trustability, trustworthy
trusty, and etcetera. If the beaucoup crowds at his Presidential
rallies are yardsticks for determining votes, one can favourably
declare him as the next president of Federal Republic of Nigeria. His
campaign organizers know how to run "things".They are amazing!.

I am pretty sure that most of us,if not all,had catch a glimpse of the
generals campaign either from the TV or perhaps witnessed one or two
of them. There are numerous stuffs to talk about. His rallies are
electrifying. You can't talk about his campaign with a mention of
energetic crowds
occupying the streets, or
enthusiastic young men climbing lampposts,and
walls to glimpse his
face. or those that took to dancing on careening
motorcycles, troubling the air with chants of "change!", brandishing homemade
brooms-symbols of his campaign.Symbols of APC. The party that is
clamouring for change.APC !!CHANGE!!!!!!!!.

Carried aware by merriments, many seems to have let go the real
question. The question many intellectuals are practically afraid to
stir. A question they have lost bone to ask. How could, they when
their voices have been muted by "things for the boys" which some of
them had unashamedly and unanimously described as "mere gifts". Gifts
indeed.

And what is the question?.

Who is behind Buhari's political campaign?. The answer is not
difficult to decipher. Bola Ahmed Tinubu .Most of us were optimistic
about change from the beginning. In fact we saw it as a necessity until
the biggest land lord in Africa joined the train.

When Buhari promised to fight corruption, we thought him serious and
clamored for him.To achieve this, he said, a reformer is needed. He
gave us a co-reformer; Tinubu!.

For clarity,Asiwaju? Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the National leader of the
APC - the change
agent.

Meditate thoughtfully on that. Laugh and start weeping for
Nigeria.
For a nation which boast
of more shrewdness than
the Italian Mafias. This
shrewdness has only
been demonstrated
through our fantastic
display of deceit, lies and
plenty magic. I am therefore not surprised seeing Tinubu fronting
himself as an agent of change.

In his numerous campaigns, Buhari revisited his stance to jail all
corrupt officials-past and present if elected as the President. Will
Buhari jail Tinubu?.Will the general send his co reformer behind
bars?.I don't know the answer. But methinks it's overtly impossible to
bite the finger that fed you.
Thank God we
don't do the polygraph
in Nigeria and
for politicians.A lie test. Obviously, the first rule in the
commandments of the
politician in Nigeria is
learning how to lie
truthfully. If not how would you fight corruption with corruption?.
Undoubtedly, that's a truthful lie.Tinubu will fight corruption.

Will Buhari rejuvenate his "retroactive law'' that saw three youthful
Nigerians off their early graves abet firing squad, upon elected on
Tinubu and likes,or will his self-proclaimed
"war against indiscipline" that carried to
sadistic levels, glorying in the
humiliation of a people during his time as a general extended to
Tinubu when elected?.

Let talk about the "anti corruption solicitor" and "reformer"
Tinubu.Let talk about his "Reformations".

"Number 4, Oyinkan
Abayomi (formerly Queens) Drive,
Ikoyi: A 5-bedroom detached house
on one acre of land which was
originally the Lagos State
Governor's guest house since 1979,now belongs to Tinubu.
The certificate of occupancy of the
property valued at N450 million
was signed and released to him by
Fashola in 2007 shortly after he
assumed office."
Will Buhari jail Tinubu?.

''Tinubu's residence at 26 Bourdillon
Road, Ikoyi was initially falsely
presented as Oando Plc Guest
House. Later, he purportedly bought
it from Oando, and used public
funds to rebuild and renovate it. The
Lagos State Government bought the
property and paid an undisclosed
sum to him and thereafter gave the
property back to him under the
bogus Pension Bill he signed to law
shortly before he left office in 2007.
The property is worth over N600
million."
Will Buhari jail Tinubu?

"The annex of the Lagos State Guest
House in Asokoro, Abuja was
bought by the State Government in
2006 for N450 million, purportedly
to protect the main house from
security breach. Shortly after Tinubu
left office, the property was
transferred to him under the pension
plan he signed into law before
leaving office."
Will Buhari jail Tinubu?

"The 250-hectare land valued at
about N35billion and strategically
located at the Ajah junction on
Lekki Road was initially meant for a
General Hospital for the people of
Eti-Osa Local Government but was
stolen by Tinubu and handed over
to Trojan Estate Ltd – a company
owned by Deji and Wale Tinubu – to
develop as Royal Garden Housing
Estate at the expense of the
taxpayers of Lagos."
Will Buhari jail Tinubu?

"The prime land of 157 hectares with
2.5km of Atlantic beachfront valued
at about N10billion and stolen by
Tinubu from the communities of
Siriwon, Igbekodo, Apakin, etc in
Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and
given to Ibukun Fakeye – his crony
to build a golf course and luxury
villa with little or no compensation
to the villagers. In addition, Tinubu
paid $20million (N3billion) out of
public treasury to Ibukun Fakeye to
commence the project in late 2006.
Fashola has since released
additional funding for this project,
which is not owned by the state
government."
Will Buhari jail Tinubu?

" The former Julius Berger yard at
Oko Orisan, Epe valued at
N450million.
Tinubu raised a loan of N4.7billion
on Eko Akete project for which
nothing was achieved before he
turned around to sell the property to
his Chagouri friends of Chagouri &
Chagouri and Hitech Construction
Ltd at a ridiculously low price at the
expense of the taxpayers of Lagos."

Will Buhari jail Tinubu?
Will Buhari jail Tinubu?
Will Buhari jail Tinubu?
Will Buhari jail Tinubu?
Will Buhari jail Tinubu?
God bless Nigeria.

BUHARISM AND DEMOCRACY-Benneth Nwankwo

It is only in Nigeria that
memories are so short that
the perpetrators of countless
coups and atrocities will
wake up after being thrown
out for mismanaging the
country, and proceed to
lecture the rest of us on
'democracy.Let study Buharism with the following question.

What were the "reactions" of Nigerians, when
Babangida overthrew Buhari?.
The answer to this painful question is unanimous; Nigerians Celebrated!.
If Nigerians celebrated the exit of a military junta, who in his
youthful age pissed on Democracy, Why clamor for his return?. Memories
lost?. let touch it a bit.

The Buhari regime lasted from
December 31st 1983 to August 27,
1985. It was a government
essentially run by six men. The first
two of these six men were Major
General Muhammadu Buhari, the
Head of State and Brigadier Tunde
Idiagbon, the Chief of Staff Supreme
Headquarters and Buhari's deputy.
TUNDE IDIAGBON!!!.
Buhari's political programme
consisted overtly on suspension of
vast sections of the 1979
Constitution and a brutal clamp
down on civil society organizations
and the civil populace via the
suspension of human rights and
civil liberties.-Professor Wole Soyinka is a living witness.

Should we talk about press freedom, Notably amongst several "Decree
4".Our memories are so weak, very weak that many seems to have
forgotten ''Tai Solarin". Indeed very painful.

Professor Soyinka a friend and colleague of Solarin has this to say:

" So Tai Solarin is already
forgotten? Tai who stood at
street corners, fearlessly
distributing leaflets that took up
the gauntlet where the media
had dropped it. Tai who was
incarcerated by that regime and
denied even the medication for
his asthmatic condition? Tai did
not ask to be sent for treatment
overseas; all he asked was his
traditional medicine that had
proved so effective after years of
struggle with asthma!".

How ironic, this very man-the fearful Nigerian god is now quite
humbly, educating his former victims on the urgent need to embrace
democracy. What does he know about democracy?. A military dictator in
Democratic Field?.

The brutal execution of; Lawal Ojuolape(30),
Bernard Ogedengbe (29) and
Bartholomew Owoh (26) using a retroactive law, despite international
and local pressure. What were the reactions of meaningful
Nigerians?.Have we forgotten the riots, massive demonstrations and
fruitless judiciary actions we bravery took in its wake?.
Indeed we are lost.

In response to the brutal and unimaginable execution, Professor Wole
Soyinka wrote " This was an
unconscionable crime, carried
out in defiance of the pleas and
protests of nearly every sector of
the Nigerian and international
community – religious, civil
rights, political, trade unions etc.
Buhari and his sidekick and his
partner-in-crime, Tunde
Idiagbon persisted in this
inhuman act for one reason and
one reason only: to place
Nigerians on notice that they
were now under an iron,
inflexible rule, under
governance by fear.". Deal with it.

Nigerians, WAKE UP!
Refuse to be cowed. A leader leads by examples. He has forceful led,
he is tested and rejected. Refuse those who pissed on your Democratic
votes but now clamoring for the same votes abeit lecturing the
country on values they can
barely spell. Be redeemed.
GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

Humanity Against The Narcissists Of Death-Wole Soyinka.

Our predicament is universal, and this is
what we have stressed from the very
beginning. The nature of religious zeal
that would routinely maim, kill, or
enslave the object of its proselytizing –
that sometime euphemism for
brainwashing – rather than let it thrive
and contribute to humanity from within
his or her limitations and uncertainties,
from within its questions or skepticism,
a mental cast that equates the mere
absence of exhibitionist ardour or rigid
conformism with impiety and apostasy,
punishable by death or mutilation, is no
different, in effect, from the tyrannical
temper of the political dictator of any
age.

The challenge is out, and it is couched in
anything but the language of spirituality.
It is humiliating, I know, but let us be
sufficiently humble as to admit the
truth: this is one scourge that laughs in
our faces, mocks the comfort zone of the
rational, the schematic, the contextual,
even comparative habit of mind, defies
probability theories and historical
precedents. And what choice of
responses do we imagine has been
forced on us, the rest of humanity? The
expression, I believe, is – damned if you
do, and damned if you don't. This
phenomenon understands only one
language:

Mobilize, or perish!

BACK OUR GIRLS Visitation, Jan 13,

#10 ATTITUDE OF A BAD WIFE MATERIAL

10 ATTITUDE OF A BAD WIFE
MATERIAL.

1) Be mindful of a lady who does not
have a relationship with God, who does
not have any desire to build one; she
should be avoided, unless you too do
not have a relationship with Him. A
woman who loves and respects the Lord
will love and respect you in obedience to
the Lord! She will support you spiritually
through prayers and will encourage you
with the word when you are down and
out. She will be there to teach your
children the way of the Lord. She is a
home builder and not a home breaker!.

2) Never get married to a woman who
finds it difficult to respect her father,
elder brother or anyone that represents a
male-figure; she will really find it tough
submitting to you. Do not forget; men
perceive respect as a proof of love and it
is in their nature to value and love
someone that respects them. A good
woman is submissive to her husband
not necessarily because he deserves it
but because it is her nature to do so and
because God commands it.

3) Watch for a woman who is teachable,
flexible and humble. An arrogant,
stubborn and rigid woman is
predisposed to building a bad marriage;
go for her if you want a woman who will
give you trouble at home. The
willingness to learn is an important
factor that can make any woman
become better with time no matter how
crude, immature or incompatible she is
with you. Flexible people adapt to
change and change is consistent in any
marital relationship.

4) Be weary of a lady who has perfected
the art of deception. She can pretend to
be an angel, to love you at all cost and
do everything possible to entice you and
when you are married, she will reveal
her true nature. When a woman is nice
to a fault, everything you do or say is
right, she never gets angry no matter
how you treat her or what happens, I bet
you, she isn't real or genuine. Some
ladies behave this way because they are
desperate to be married, because of
poor self image or for what they will
gain from the relationship e.g Money.
You need to marry a woman who is so
genuine that you will love her for who
she is, loving her in her best and worse
state. However, pretence will never lead
to a lasting marital commitment rather
it will result to a dysfunctional
relationship.

5) Never marry a woman who loves you
for your money, family background, and
social status. The reason is simple;(God
Forbids) when your money is gone and
all your wealth is gone, she will either
abandon you or she will give you a hell
of trouble by nagging you to death.
Money has wings and can fly away and
fly back but true love endures forever.
Secondly, marriage is about the two of
you alone and you will make it happen
based on your character and behaviour.
It is not about your extended family
name and your social status.

6) Any woman who is very lazy and
wants a man to provide EVERYthing for
her is not worth being married to. A
woman, who is always asking for
money, for clothes, for call card, always
demanding money and material things
from you no matter how much you give,
should be avoided. A woman should be
self-reliant; industrious and financially
independent to an extent. There is
nothing wrong with requesting financial
assistance and gifts from someone you
love and want to be married to, however
when such an act becomes a burden, a
demand, a consistent pattern, it is no
longer an expression of love but a mere
act done to fulfil an obligation. I have
observed that most women who
genuinely love their men think of how to
support them and not to rip them off.
They are always looking for ways to
support you and build you up and not to
grab from you.

7) Never get married to a woman who
hardly tells the truth, who has a
tendency to steal out of greed or any
other reason; she may steal from you or
from others one day and cause you a
lifetime embarrassment.
It will be difficult to vouch for or trust a
liar. I heard a story of a wedding that
was called off in Nigeria because, at
night before the wedding, the lady who
was about to wed stole some jewelry
which was bought by her fiancé's
mother for her daughter. When they
started searching for the expensive
jewelries es, no one agreed to have
found them; the lady also denied setting
her eyes on them; but in the course of
the search, it was found in her sister's
box. After much interrogation, the sister
confessed that she was the one who
asked her to hide them.
That was how a wedding involving a
young man based in the US with his
family and this beautiful but dishonest
lady was annulled.

Anyone who has the
propensity to tell lies without remorse
also has the tendency to steal. May God
open your eyes to see clearly!
Be wary of a woman who has unrealistic
expectations from you as she expects
you to make up for the emotional
emptiness of her childhood created by
an absent or unloving father.
A husband cannot parent his wife, it is
the role of her father; he can only parent
his own children. Only God can be a
father to the fatherless or a mother to
the motherless.
Marry a woman who is whole and
mature who does not need to depend on
any man for her sense of fulfilment in life
but on God.

9) Never get married to a lady who
cannot delay gratification. She always
wants to buy more clothes, some more
jewelries, some more shoes, a shopping
freak who hardly saves money. Unless
you are as rich as Bill Gate or Warren
Buffet, it might be burdensome coping
with her. Furthermore, avoid getting
married to a lady who cannot control
her sexual desire and does not place
any value on her body. A virtuous
woman will not want you to go all the
way before marriage because she knows
how to control her emotions and she
exercises restraint on spending.

10) Avoid any lady who does not love
your friends and family members; she
does not allow you to keep in touch with
friends and relatives except hers. A good
lady has a large heart and would be
willing to accommodate others.

Marriage does not mean isolation from
family but rather an integration of a
nuclear family into an extended family.
There are many other factors that can
help you spot a wrong lady but above
all, find a woman who loves God more
than you or anyone else. Her love for
God will bring out the best in her and
enable her love you unreservedly
because she knows that being the best
for you pleases God.
When looking for a wife, focus on finding
a woman who has the traits of a
virtuous woman as listed below.
However, remember that it is important
to become a MR RIGHT before you go
looking for a MRS RIGHT.

Perfection is
not a human attribute.
What the bible says about the qualities
of a Great Wife.
A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value. She brings
him good, not harm, all the days of her
life.
She selects wool and flax and works
with eager hands. She is like the
merchant ships, bringing her food from
afar.
She gets up while it is still night; she
provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
She considers a field and buys it; out of
her earnings she plants a vineyard. She
sets about her work vigorously; her
arms are strong for her tasks. She sees
that her trading is profitable, and her
lamp does not go out at night. In her
hand she holds the staff and grasps the
spindle with her fingers.
She opens her arms to the poor and
extends her hands to the needy.
When it snows, she has no fear for her
household; for all of them are clothed in
scarlet. She makes coverings for her
bed; she is clothed in fine linen and
purple.
Her husband is respected at the city
gate, where he takes his seat among the
elders of the land. She makes linen
garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with
sashes.
She is clothed with strength and dignity
she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom, and faithful
instruction is on her tongue.
She watches over the affairs of her
household and does not eat the bread of
idleness. Her children arise and call her
blessed; her husband also, and he
praises her: "Many women do noble
things, but you surpass them all."
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is
fleeting; but a woman who fears the
Lord is to be praised. Honour her for all
that her hands have done, and let her
works bring her praise at the city gate.
PROVERBS 31:10-31

PRETERMISSION OF AFRICAN HISTORY

Methinks, we
know, that the mission of education
is to seek truth and propagate same
undiluted, unembellished, and
convincingly proven at all times. But
is
that truly so?.

For many of us, it took coming to
America, and devoting significant
time, aside from our normal
engagements, to dispassionately
study our own native societies and
where we fit in the larger world in
which we all inhabit.

Didn't we know that it took coming to
America
for people like Mbonu Ojike, Zik of
Africa,
Nkrumah and others, to educate
themselves that Africa was a great
continent, that Europe had no right
to colonize Africa, that the black man
was part of the great civilizations of
the world contrary to the bleak
picture painted of the place of the
black person in the sun. Consider
how much you knew about the slave
trade when you were in Nigeria.
Very little, I must say, at least for me.

What did you know of Egypt, the
pyramids, African civilizations, and
the fact that man started his journey
on earth from Africa? Who ever knew
that there are more pyramids in
Sudan than in Egypt? We were
taught British Empire History,
European History, History of the
World, and American War of
Independence. We were never taught
the making of our society, the
ancient and modern
accomplishments of our people. We
were not taught our culture, our
spirituality, our trade and commerce.
We need to get it right. We must ask
questions. We must demand for "real"
answers.

Real Africans not "stereotypes" should
reflect on

ode Nigeria

In the midst of corruption, terror crept inn.
Bombing scoring high;men, women & children slain in their numbers.
Politicians everywhere gathering forces for 2015,
yet our girls are missing.
It's strange.
It's strange how all these are happening yet we stand strong.
Power supply 5minutes per day and our economy stabbed with pen
and armed robbery yet our GDP scoring high in Africa.
I don't have answers for all these!.
Perhaps the answers are strange.
I had thought for a long time and found no answer.
I was merely led into greater complexities!.
I only know WE Nigerians are brave people.
We are strong.
We are tough and tough times doesn't last but tough people do. ‪#‎GodBlessNigeria
